It is never too early or too late to get advice. IET Connect has partnership with free debt advice provider StepChange.  StepChange, one of the UK’s leading debt advice charities, can offer IET members in the UK free independent and confidential debt and money advice.

While StepChange can help you to manage your money problems, IET Connect may be able to offer a short term package of support to help get you back on your feet.

Wherever you are in the world there are some basic tips which we have compiled to help you deal with your debts.

There are different ways to get advice; these depend on the severity of your debt and your personal preferences. We have described some of these in the Choosing the right advice section, along with some links to different providers to help you choose the best option for you. These are all UK based but you may be able to find similar in your country if you are not in the UK.

Debt advice needs to come from someone who understands the legal and financial rules and regulations in your country. For example in the USA there is an organisation called the American Consumer Credit Counselling (ACCC) who can provide advice. If you search for debt advice, debt counselling or credit counselling you should be able to find someone to help you. Please be aware that if there are no charitable advice providers you may be charged for advice, before you agree to anything make sure you are aware of any charges or fees and what impact they will have on your ability to repay any debt.

If you are struggling with your finances, wherever you are in the world, get in contact as there may be something we can do to help you.

If you need free debt advice we can refer you to our partner StepChange.

There are a number of other organisations which provide advice and advice is available in different formats (self-help, online, telephone and face-to-face) to suit your need.
